Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior representative commented the attack made him speechless and had to be solved quickly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
